Pittsburgh visit

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Hello again! Pls read first my Oregon visit before this..hehe!(magbuot jud ko no!)Bitaw uy,pakyaw man gud ni nga pagka blog gud kay tapulan man si manang!
Last Friday, we flew here in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania to check out honey’s law school, the University of Pittsburgh, explore the city and find a place to rent in the next 3 years that he’ll be in law school. He got accepted in some schools all over the US but he liked Pittsburgh most and decided that this will be it.We got here in the afternoon, checked in and had a brief view of the city before we went to sleep. The following day we had a tour in the university. The University of Pittsburgh is located in the city..it’s buildings are scattered around. It’s very interesting coz some of it’s structures have unique architectural designs.I’m amazed how they  were done. The most unique of them all is their cathedral of learning. It really looked like a cathedral with 39 floors(i think).we were in the 38th floor and were able to see the view of the city. It’s really cool coz the ceilings were so high and intricately carved. It took 11 years to build it.They held some classes there, libraries and study halls(tons of it!)
The next few days were spent house hunting by foot.Wheww!!! akong bagtak kay super jumbo size najud tawn! We went to some of the different neighborhoods here and saw some apartments and duplexes but honey didn’t like them coz he doesn’t like to be bothered in the future by some unruly neighbors. Our considerations in looking for a place is the quiet, cost and accessibility of things to do.So with that in mind we searched more places and on the second day of looking we were lucky to see a cute and beautiful house in a quiet neighborhood with an affordable rent and with easy bus access to school and shops. It’s perfect! When we saw the house we felt like it embraced and welcomed us.It may sound silly but it has a very homey appeal to us.With no further fuss,we signed the lease and was happy to find a perfect home for us in the next three years to come.
Yesterday,we went to the Carnegie Museum and had lots of fun there,It’s a new experience for me(kay wala man na sa among bukid ug kadagatan gud!)The city itself is very interesting full of historical places to visit and explore. We’ll surely do that once were settled here by mid July. The people here are diversed too somewhat like in Berkeley. It’s very clean and green. So far so good.A nice change for us.

the visit to Oregon

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Hello people! It’s time for me to share the events that kept me busy ginagmay.Three weeks ago my best friend from college,Marifi came over from Germany to visit me.Actually, her husband is assigned in Texas for a few months so he let her flew to California for two weeks to visit me.In the first week, she went with us in Salem,Oregon to check out honey’s prospect law school(Willamette University). We drove there for 9 hours and enjoyed it because the view on the way was spectacular with all the trees lined up by the side of the mountain slopes, the mountains were amazing as some of them were still covered with snow. The lakes were great! We stopped at Lake Shasta to stretch our legs and had lunch.Guess what’s our "baon"?They were fried dried fish, "adobong" chicken feet and bangus.Honey was teasing us coz we were fully packed with food.He said "when you have a Filipina wife, you’ll never starve"hehe! I think it’s true coz for me it’s always nice to cook and have extra food ready for later.
We arrived in Salem at 8:30 in the evening and were surprised to know that almost all of the restaurants there were closed. It’s kind of wierd thinking that it’s the capital of Oregon and it’s along the university belt.We were lucky to order a take out in the Chinese restaurant. So we ate and went to sleep since all of us were tired after the long hours of sitting.
We spent our next few days there visiting Willamette University and checking out the town.We went to their capitol building and were given the chance to sit in the governor’s chair and took lots of pictures.hehe! Salem is so clean and green and the people were so nice and calm compared to Cali people that’s always in a hurry.(murag gihulmigasan)hehe! The school is neat too but there’s something in the whole place that it didn’t seem right.I mean I didn’t have the vibes for it to be my home in the next three years that hubby will be in law school there so when he asked me what I thought about the place and I told him that and was surprised to know that he felt the same way too.
After two days, we drove down to Jacksonville,Oregon to visit CJ and John…hubby’s dear friends as they were his best friend Bill’s parents. We had more fun coz they’re a charming couple with a hyper puppy,Daisy. They live in a lovely home in the outskirt of a historical town.I felt like I’m in an old movie.hehehe! It’s so charming coz the people there preserved the old buildings and you can’t see any modern building in that area. The modern ones were farther from it.We enjoyed our stay there coz our hosts were so accommodating and fun to talk to.It was a nice visit despite the fact that honey got a speeding ticket on the way back to Cali but nevertheless it was a good memory.(the trip, not the ticket)hehe!
